1947 Bistro & Cocktail Bar – An Urban Oasis in the Heart of the City - Diano Marina
In contemporary hospitality, the lobby bar is no longer just a service space, but a defining environment that expresses the identity of a 4-star hotel and shapes the guest experience. The 1947 Bistro & Cocktail Bar is conceived as an immersive, fluid space where architecture, nature, and light come together to create a refined urban retreat with a distinct international character.
The concept is rooted in the idea of an urban oasis—a place that offers a sensory escape from the city while remaining deeply connected to it. The spatial experience unfolds as a gradual transition: from the lobby to the bar, through the courtyard, and into the garden. Rather than abrupt separations, this sequence is defined by subtle shifts in light, materials, and greenery.
At the core lies the indoor lobby bar, organized around a central counter that acts as both a visual anchor and a social hub. Around it, a variety of seating arrangements—intimate bays, lounge chairs, and flexible tables—support different uses, from casual meetings to quiet relaxation. These semi-private niches create comfort without interrupting spatial continuity.
Materiality plays a key role in shaping the atmosphere. Warm wood surfaces, soft textures, and a muted palette establish a calm and sophisticated environment, while refined metallic details add a contemporary edge. The design balances elegance with informality, making the space both welcoming and distinctive.
Greenery is treated as a fundamental architectural element. Integrated planters and vegetated partitions define zones, filter views, and create layered spatial experiences, transforming the interior into a living landscape.
A strong indoor–outdoor connection is achieved through full-height glazed openings that dissolve the boundary between spaces. When open, they merge the lobby and courtyard into a single continuous environment; when closed, they preserve transparency and natural light.
The courtyard acts as the heart of the project—an intermediate, semi-covered space where greenery intensifies. Shaded by pergolas or screening systems, it creates a comfortable microclimate and a relaxed atmosphere. Beyond, the garden extends the experience into a more natural and informal setting. Climate-responsive strategies—natural ventilation, shading, and the cooling effect of vegetation—enhance comfort while reducing energy demand.
The result is a versatile environment that evolves throughout the day—bright and calm in the morning, dynamic in the afternoon, and intimate in the evening. The 1947 Bistro & Cocktail Bar becomes not just a place to pass through, but a destination: an architectural landscape where interior and exterior, nature and design, merge into a contemporary urban oasis.
